IRS News Releases

IR-2026-114, September 25, 2026 — IRS Launches New Mobile App, Replacing IRS2Go

The new IRS app replaces IRS2Go and adds secure sign-in to selected Individual Online Account features: refund and amended-return status, balance information, payments and payment history, select notices and letters, transcripts, communication preferences, and IP PIN access. Existing IRS2Go users receive it through the normal app update. Business Tax Account and Tax Pro Account remain on IRS.gov only. Expect client questions, and remind clients to download only from the official app store listings, since the IRS is warning about look-alike apps.

IR-2026-113, September 21, 2026 — IRS Wraps Up 2026 Nationwide Tax Forums With Nearly 13,000 Attendees

The five 2026 Tax Forums resolved 1,165 taxpayer cases in the Case Resolution Rooms and assisted 1,635 tax professionals with e-services, PTIN, and identity authentication issues. Sessions covered AI, digital asset information reporting, collection cases, audits, the Working Families Tax Cuts provisions (including no tax on tips and overtime), and what to expect in the 2027 filing season. Just released: IR-2026-115, September 28, 2026 — Proposed Regulations on Installment Payments of Tax on Certain Farmland Sales

Treasury and the IRS issued proposed regulations under new Section 1062, which lets eligible sellers of qualifying farmland to qualified (actively engaged) farmers elect to pay the tax on the gain in four equal annual installments, for sales in taxable years beginning after July 4, 2025. The farmland generally must have been used for farming for substantially all of the prior 10 years and be restricted to farm use for 10 years after the sale. The proposed rules also cover partnerships, S corporations, trusts, and estates. Comments are due November 30, 2026. Highly relevant for Oklahoma agricultural clients.

Oklahoma Tax Commission & State Tax News

Current notice (as of September 29, 2026) — OTC Refund Pause Continues

The refund pause first reported on September 16 remains in place. The notice on the OkTAP home page states that the OTC has paused issuing refunds and updating account balances due to system issues at the Oklahoma State Treasurer's Office, and that the OTC is working closely with the Treasurer's Office to resolve them. No resumption date has been announced. Clients expecting state refunds, or checking account balances in OkTAP, should be told that delays and out-of-date balances are expected for now.

Just announced: September 28, 2026 — Governor Directs Pause on Dyed Diesel Enforcement for Farm Vehicles

Governor Stitt sent a letter directing the OTC, the Department of Public Safety, and the Corporation Commission to pause enforcement of taxes, regulations, and fines related to red-dyed diesel used in farm vehicles for a requested 120-day period during harvest season. The OTC was directed to seek Dyed Diesel Fuel Penalty Relief from the IRS. The IRS has not announced that federal relief has been granted, so agricultural clients should not assume the federal penalty exposure has changed.

Recent update: September 9, 2026 — State Treasurer's August 2026 Tax Revenue Report

August revenue totaled $1.3 billion, up $47.2 million (3.7%) from August 2025, and the 12-month total reached $18.0 billion (up 6.1%). By source for August: combined income tax $392.2 million (up 1.6%, with individual income tax up 11.6% and corporate income tax down); sales and use tax $631.0 million (up 6.1%); gross production tax $100.0 million (up 16.5%); motor vehicle tax $61.1 million (down 14.5%). The September report is expected in early October.
