IR-2026-106, Sept. 4, 2026 — Security Summit: Strengthen defenses against tax identity theft

The IRS and Security Summit partners highlighted multifactor authentication (MFA), IP PINs, and secure IRS online accounts as key identity-theft defenses. The release notes that the FTC Safeguards Rule requires tax preparation firms of any size to use MFA to protect client data — directly relevant to your firm's Written Information Security Plan (WISP) compliance.

Sept. 4, 2026 — Oklahoma Tax Commission cuts call wait times after system modernization (GovTech)

The OTC modernized its core tax administration system, taxpayer contact center, and analytics capabilities on Amazon Web Services. Following the transformation, average taxpayer wait times fell from multiple hours to six minutes, call handling time dropped from more than 15 minutes to seven minutes, and the call abandonment rate declined from 60% to 11%. Practitioners calling the OTC on clients' behalf should notice meaningfully shorter hold times going forward.

Section 4: Annual Seminars

2026 OSEA Northeast Annual Seminar

October 29–30, 2026

Location: Northeastern State University – Broken Arrow, 3100 New Orleans Street, Broken Arrow, OK 74014

Up to 16 CE units available, in person or via Zoom.

Headliner speakers Marc J. Dombrowski, EA, and Jane Ryder, EA, CPA, will conduct 15 CE units. Dombrowski's sessions cover financial analysis, installment agreements, offers in compromise, appeals, CDP, and transcripts; Ryder's sessions cover ethics, NIL income, QBI maximization, stock options, and tax planning for businesses and rentals. IRS Stakeholder Liaison Mercean Lam will present on several IRS CE-eligible topics, and Mike Kaufmann will give a non-CE hour on Oklahoma tax updates. Lunch is provided both days for on-site attendees; the Zoom link is sent one week before the event.
