IRS Announces Final Saturday Taxpayer Assistance Center Hours for 2026

The IRS announced that select Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TACs) across the country were open Saturday, June 27, 2026 — marking the final special Saturday service event of 2026. TACs operated from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., providing all standard in-person services except cash payments. Note: The Tulsa TAC (the only Oklahoma location participating in this program) was not scheduled for the June 27 date.

What this means for your practice: The IRS's 2026 Saturday TAC program has now concluded. Clients needing in-person IRS assistance should schedule regular weekday appointments at their local TAC. Year-round appointments are available Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

National Taxpayer Advocate Issues FY 2027 Objectives Report to Congress

National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins released her Fiscal Year 2027 Objectives Report to Congress, highlighting a largely successful 2026 filing season: the IRS processed nearly 139 million individual tax returns, issued more than 90 million refunds, and successfully implemented major tax law changes from the One Big Beautiful Bill. However, the report documents significant service challenges — including a 21% overall telephone answer rate, 45-minute average hold times on the Installment Agreement/Balance Due line, and continuing delays of approximately 20 months to resolve identity theft victim cases.

What this means for your practice: The data confirms real-world practitioner experience — the Installment Agreement/Balance Due phone line answered only 31% of calls with 45-minute average holds. The Practitioner Priority Service (PPS) line performed better (72% answer rate, 8-minute average hold), making it your best option for time-sensitive client matters. The report also identifies improving online Tax Pro Accounts as a 2027 priority, which should eventually reduce the need to call the IRS for routine matters.

Oklahoma May 2026 Revenues Exceed Estimates — Ninth Consecutive Month of Growth

State Treasurer Todd Russ reported that total gross Oklahoma tax revenue for May 2026 reached approximately $1.3 billion, a 2.7% increase from May 2025, driven in part by strong gross production tax collections. This marks the ninth consecutive month of positive annual revenue growth.

The Office of Management and Enterprise Services (OMES) reported that General Revenue Fund (GRF) collections for May totaled $701.5 million — $64.9 million (10.2%) above the monthly estimate and $57.9 million (9%) above May 2025 levels. Year-to-date GRF collections stand at $7.9 billion, which is $458.3 million (6.2%) above estimate. The State Board of Equalization re-certified available funds on June 15 for FY 2027 appropriations.

What this means for your practice: Oklahoma's fiscal position heading into FY 2027 (beginning July 1) is stable and above projections. Business clients advising on state-level planning should note continued revenue strength across sales tax, income tax, and gross production categories.
